Cooper Union's 160th Commencement will take place on Tuesday May 21, 2019 at 10:30 AM in the Great Hall of the Foundation Building at 7 East 7th Street. Doors open at 9:15. Tickets required. This event is not open to the public but it will be streamed live.
Edray Goins, Ph.D., will deliver the commencement address. A professor of mathematics at Pomona College in Claremont, California, Goins works in the field of number theory as it pertains to the intersection of representation theory and algebraic geometry. In September 2017 he wrote an article for the American Mathematical Society (AMS) titled Why I'm leaving a Research I University for a Liberal Arts College. In this essay, Goins outlined his reasons for leaving his tenured position at Purdue University after 14 years in favor of Pomona College.

Jean Brownhill AR'00, founder and chief executive officer of Sweeten, an award-winning service designed to provide home and small business owners with a reliable, transparent platform to find the best architects, designers, and general contractors for their renovation needs.
Richard Schwartz ME'57 played a pioneering role in the development of Navstar GPS, the satellite-based navigation system. In 2019 he shared the Queen Elizabeth Prize in Engineering for his work.
Awol Erizku A'10 is best known for his staged portraits and his appropriation-based practice.
This year's student speaker will be Gabriela Godlewski, a civil engineering graduate.
